The Knaphill Cabin is a free drop-in youth club for 11-17 year olds. which recently celebrated its 4th birthday at the Vyne. The aim of the club is to provide a safe and friendly place to meet friends and relax. As well as an assortment of games including a pool table, Wii, airhockey, PS3, table football, table tennis, card and boardgames there is a small cafe selling snacks and drinks. Most sessions also include an organised activity such as craft, cooking, collaging, badge making, games tournament, baking, or an organised event such as a cartoon workshop, reptile show or dance session. The Cabin is open every Monday night from 7-9pm (excluding bank holidays) and in 2012 over a hundred local young people attended the club, averaging 22 per session.
More details about the club can be found on our website at: http://www.knaphillcabin.org.uk/.
We use facebook page http://www.facebook.com/KnaphillCabin and twitter feed https://twitter.com/KnaphillCabin to provide members and volunteers with weekly updates of what’s happening at the next session.
We are proud of our success but are struggling to stay open due to lack of volunteers: we have already had to close at short notice twice this year. Ideally we would like to open for a second night each week, and provide somewhere safe and positive for local young people to go in the evenings, rather than them hanging around the town centre to meet their friends. As well as offering young people the opportunity to relate with adults in a mutually respectful way, we believe the Cabin performs a vital role in helping them feel part of the Knaphill community.
