We recently reported that the County Council had planned for double yellow lines along both sides of Chobham Road from the Garibaldi to the Bagshot Road junction . After representation from residents the plans were modified.

The plans approved by Woking’s Joint Committee had double yellow lines at the Limecroft Road junction of Chobham Road to No2 Chobham Road. This is on the opposite side of the road to the Garibaldi.

No parking or loading at any time around the unction of Chobham Road and Trinity Road.

The plans will now be published for a formal period of consultation.

This years village show broke all previous records and the attendance, once the figures are calculated, is expected to be between 2,500 and 3,000. One figure we can confirm and that is with regards the dog show. 132 dogs entered this years dog show, a 100% increase on last year.

The show was so popular that on occasions the car park full notice was brought into play. Pleased to see so many residents using the free transport the KRA arranged from The Vyne.

There are quite a number of people/organisations we need to thank, first our hosts Mizens Railways, without them and their volunteers the show would not be possible.

The show was sponsored by Seymours, Estate Agents, Diamond Dry Cleaners and LA Fitness Gym, thank you and thank you to all the local shops and businesses who donated prizes for the grand raffle.

This year I think we exceeded ourselves with the range of entertainment, Bisley Almac Brass Band, Stormy Waters and Ukelele band provided the music with Punch & Judy, Chobham Morris Dancers and Belly Tricks adding to the entertainment.

Finally, but by no means least the stall holders and army of volunteers who made it all possible – thank you.

On Monday the Knaphill Village Sign returned to its rightful place on the pole outside the old library in the High Street. The KRA are working on a number of projects to improve the centre of our village. The job of refurbishing the sign was only possible through the kind donation from the manager and staff of Tesco’s.

When we took the sign down we were shocked to find how poor the condition the sign was in. The sign is actually hollow and was full of water, this had caused a substantial amount of damage. The damage was the main reason why it has taken so long to complete the refurbishment. Thanks must go to Jeff Duke of Hoebridge who volunteered to carry out the repairs and repaint the sign. We made one minor change to the actual picture in that we changed the colour of the flower in an attempt to represent the knap hill azalea.

Three other volunteers need to be thanked, John Baker, Paul Chapman and Michael Wand who assisted in the removal, transportation and rehanging the sign. There are many tasks around the village that would not be carried out without volunteers taking on a challenge.

Our next priority is to get Woking Borough Council to improve the flower beds that are situated in and around the centre of the village. Why does the planting of flowers in the Council owned flower beds end with St. Johns and Horsall.

Surrey County Council have published substantial changes to the bus services in the County. I am pleased to report that after strong representation the changes to routes serving Knaphill are minimal and the details are as follows:-

Route 34 Guildford to Camberley

Change Mon-Sat timetable to provide 3 buses per hour from Guildford to Camberley via Woking and Knaphill. No changes to evening and Sunday services.

Route 35 Guildford to Lightwater

Route 35 will no longer serve Hermitage Estate in St. Johns so making the journey from Knaphill to Woking and beyond that bit shorter.

Route 28 Guildford to Woking

Route 91 Woking to Knaphill Sainsbury’s

A new group of family solicitors have moved into the village. Lindsay, Sail & Turner have moved into 1 High Street, offices above Pets Kingdom. A new business is always welcomed and lets hope this brings to an end any idea of this building being demolished and replaced by yet another three storey non descript building.

The Royal Oak has a new landlord and the new people have brought in the builders so we will have to wait and see what they plan to change the pub into.
