Policing Your Community Event

Surrey Police and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey are teaming up to hold a series of public engagement events in every borough and district across the county.

The ‘Policing Your Community’ events are an opportunity for residents to come and speak to Surrey Police’s Temporary Chief Constable Gavin Stephens and Police and Crime Commissioner David Munro as well as hear from their local Borough Commander.

The Chief Constable will give an update on the current challenges for policing and future plans for the service in Surrey whilst local Borough Commanders will update on the policing priorities and community issues in your area.

This is your chance to ask questions, hear about, and comment on, the future of policing in Surrey including an outline of plans for the 100 extra officers, operational staff and Police Community Support Officers to come from additional council tax funding.

T/Chief Constable Gavin Stephens said: “We want to deliver the best possible policing service in Surrey and it is extremely important our residents are involved in understanding and shaping how we do this. These events are a great opportunity to get those conversations going and we really want to talk to as many people as possible so please do register for your local event and come along to see us.”

PCC David Munro said: “Residents regularly tell me how much they value policing in their local area and it is really important to me that we involve the Surrey public in our plans for the future through events like this. This year’s council tax increase has given Surrey Police the opportunity to employ an extra 100 officers and operational staff and I look forward to hearing the views of our local communities on the proposals for their deployment.”

Woking’s event will take place on 14th May, 6.30pm, at Bishop David Brown School, Albert Drive, Woking.

Tickets are free but you do need to reserve a place by clicking here.

Antisocial Behaviour in and around Knaphill

Antisocial Behaviour in and around Knaphill…

If you experience antisocial behaviour you need to report it. Sadly due to funding we have lost our community officer and police patrols are few and far between. When we call 101 or the council these calls are logged. If any area is experiencing high levels of crime they will have to respond.

There are two options, call 101 or the council.

When should I use 101?

You should call 101 to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response. For example, if:

Your car has been stolen
Your property has been damaged
You suspect drug use or dealing in your neighbourhood
Or to:
Give the police information about crime in your area
Speak to the police about a general enquiry

You should always call 999 when it is an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, someone suspected of a crime is nearby, when there is danger to life or when violence is being used or threatened.

When should I call the council?

Environmental crime impacts on our communities and contributes to people’s fear of crime.
Types of environmental crime include: fly tipping, littering, graffiti and vandalism. All these acts are illegal, pollute the surroundings in which we live, cause harm to human health and can ruin the appearance of your village.
Contact the council at customers@woking.gov.uk
or on 01483 755855 and state it is Environmental Crime.

It’s really important to report anti-social behaviour whenever it occurs. All residents have a role to play, don’t put up with it – report it. The Council can and do prosecute offenders who commit these acts.

Policing resources for Knaphill

After chasing an update for several months, we have just been informed that the situation regarding Knaphill is the following, which is a direct quote from a communication from Inspector Nolan Heather, from the Woking Area Policing Team of Surrey Police:

“In April  we underwent a change in how we deliver our front line service.  This resulted in a new model called Policing in your Neighbourhood (PIYN). This is good news for each borough as it means that each area now has its own uniformed team who are locally led. The old Safer Neighbourhood Team has also changed as well. It has become smaller and is focusing on tackling repeat issues on the borough.

For Knaphill,  PCSO Sultan Khan is still the point of contact for the area.  He is managed by PS Emmie Harris and both of them form part of the wider team that looks after Woking.

In regards of the names and numbers to contact, for  an emergency it will be 999 as this will provide the quickest response. If the incident is not an emergency then the 101 number is the next best number to call. This will ensure that your call is logged and details can be passed onto the team. This reduces the risk of the matter being missed should the officer be away on leave for example.  Residents can also contact the local team on woking@surrey.pnn.police.uk  (I must stress that this is not to be used to report crime).

We also have our own Facebook (Wokingbeat)  and Twitter page (@wokingbeat). These both provide an opportunity for local residents to see what the team are currently involved with.”

The KRA are looking at the possibility of organising a public meeting with Inspector Heather so that he can explain in more detail the implications of the above and residents can ask questions and express any concerns or problems they might have.  Details will be made available once this is firmed up.

Tackling anti-social behaviour

There have been problems with anti-social behaviour in and around the lower part of Victoria Road and we have previously reported on a very vocal Police Panel meeting that was held a few weeks ago. I understand that this particular flair up has been dealt with and that normality has been restored to that part of Knaphill. If you know differently please contact the KRA.

Surrey police have just launched an awareness week on tackling anti-social behaviour. The purpose of this awareness week is to ensure that Surrey residents know which organisation deals with each type of ASB and what can be done to tackle so that local issues can be quickly resolved.

More details can be found on the Surrey Police website or facebook.com/Woking Police.

Anti social problems return to Knaphill

Message from Surrey Police

It has recently been brought to the attention of the police’s Local Neighbourhood Team that residents of Victoria Road are experiencing anti social behaviour around the green at Herbert Crescent. The Police have reports that youths are gathering until late in the evening causing a disturbance and drinking alcohol.

This has resulted in fights and criminal damage being caused in the nearby area. The behaviour will not be tolerated and the local team have increased patrols in the area to deal with any offence robustly.

Anti social behaviour can range from inconsiderate noise levels to more serious incidents involving intimidating or threatening behaviour.

Should you experience any anti social behaviour, please contact Surrey Police on 101 to report the incident.

Any information the public give the police will be treated confidentially and anonymously.

Changes with local policing

Sergeant Chris Lee who was the neighbourhood  police sergeant for Knaphill and Brookwood has taken up a new position within Surrey Police and on behalf of the KRA I would like to say thank you to Chris, I always found him approachable and answered a question as he saw it.

So in Woking we have a new police commander, Nolan Heather and we are to get a new neighbourhood sergeant.  We have a police forum meeting scheduled for 7th April at Stef’s Café, Knaphill High Street starting at 7.30pm. An opportunity to find out more about local policing.

Motorists advised of abnormal load travelling through Surrey

Surrey Police is advising motorists to be aware of an abnormal load that will be travelling through part of the county on Saturday morning (December 7)

Two articulated lorries carrying a load of metal cylinders measuring 21m long will be escorted by two Surrey Police motorcycles on a route from Slyfield Industrial Estate in Guildford to Pease Pottage services in Crawley.

The journey is due to start at 8am and is going to take around four hours to complete. From Slyfield, the escort will travel on the A320 Woking Road, Clay Lane, A3, London Rd, Clandon Rd, A246, A24 and A264 through to its destination.

The load, which is too large to travel on the motorway, is eventually bound for Portslade Docks in Sussex. It will pass through Effingham, Bookham and Dorking and is expected to be slow moving.

Wherever possible disruption will be kept to a minimum however some congestion could be possible and motorists are asked to be patient if they do come across the convoy. Anyone travelling over this period to catch a flight or meet appointments are advised to allow sufficient additional time for their journeys.

Police NW update 22/11/13

Here is the latest Neighbourhood Watch Crime Bulletin. Surrey Police recently changed systems and so you may see that some Crime References no longer have the WK/13 prefix. In future, crime references will be numbers only.

Friday the 15thThursday the 21st of November 2013

In Your Area

I have to report that in the last week the following crimes occurred in or near to your area:

BURGLARY

Crime Reference WK/13/6775 – Between 21:00 on Friday the 15th and 01:30 on Saturday the 16th of November 2013 an out building at a property in FORESTERS CLOSE, KNAPHILL was broken into. The offenders used a metal spade to force a door off its hinges and stole power tools, fishing tackle and golf equipment.

The majority of burglaries that are committed occur at the rear of properties. For this reason it is important to deter access into your back gardens. Gates should be closed and locked at all times when not in direct use. Deter the scaling of gates and fences by adding trellis to the tops of them. If you have any accessible ladders please ensure that they are secured.

Please make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked when not in direct use. Please don’t think that because you are only popping out for a moment that it won’t happen to you!

If you are going to be out for the evening or away for a period of time consider ways to make it look less likely that your property is unoccupied. Lights left on in selected rooms can have the desired effect during the hours of darkness although plug-in timers can be more effective, and less of a drain on power, if you are planning to be away for a longer period.

Consider the installation of an intruder alarm in your home. Any alarm installed should conform to standard BS EN 50131 and should be fitted by a company that is NSI (National Security Inspectorate) or SSAIB (Security Systems and Alarms Inspection Board) approved. Details of such companies can be found at www.nsi.org.uk or www.ssaib.co.uk

Outbuildings should be locked at all times. Large valuable items should be placed out of view and chained up to other items or a secure anchor point within the outbuilding. Items could also be property marked via engraving or painting your house number and postcode onto them. A record of their serial number should also be kept and registered onto a national property database, visit www.immobilise.com for further information.
