myKnaphill Summer 2020 – Online Issue

Summer 2020 has had an unusual start! What with one thing and another (!), we’ve made the difficult decision to only produce an online version of our quarterly magazine, myKnaphill. This decision was not taken lightly, but we feel it’s in the best interests of everyone involved. Rest assured that the issue still contains all the usual features and content that you’ve come to expect from us, and trust that we really hope to be back up and running in a more normal way by the Autumn.

In the meantime, please click below to download the latest issue of myKnaphill magazine.

Are you a past pupil of Knaphill School..?

…Or know someone who is?

The current year 3 are looking at the history of the local area, and as part of the study they would like to invite someone in who went to the school many years ago and who could answer some questions compiled by the children. The children will then compare what school was like then with modern-day schooling. If you could help, please contact the Year 3 Head, Ben Davies, via b.davies@knaphill.surrey.sch.uk.

Town Centre development – decision

Last night, 4th November, the Councillors on Woking Borough’s Planning Committee approved the development plans for the area around the bandstand, fire station part of town. As stated in an earlier posting this development will have a significant impact on our bus services. One or two Councillors raised the question of bus routes but their main concern was the impact buses stopping on Victoria Way would have on the flow of traffic. The decision was if the bus stops on Victoria Way did not work just remove them. This would mean that for residents entering town there would be only one bus stop and that would be at the railway station.

Although Councillor’s discussed the plans for over an hour it soon became apparent that the plans would be approved and that the majority of the debate/argument had been held in private. The formal Planning Committee meeting was just a formality.

I am sure that in other debates Councillors will advocating that residents should leave their cars at home and either cycle, walk or take the us into town. When that day comes remind them of their attitude towards bus users in the design of the town centre.

Staying with transport it was assumed that the majority of residents in the 392 new apartments that form part of the plan will be commuters and a Councillor asked if this would have an impact on Woking’s railway stations ability to cope. The answer was yes but not our problem. Typical.

WBC – Waste and recycling survey

A lot is said about the amount of rubbish we send to land fill sites, the frequency of rubbish collections and the regularity of the Council emptying street rubbish bins. Well you now have the opportunity to comment via Woking’s waste and recycling survey. This survey form can be accessed via Woking Borough Council’s website. The survey is open until 7th November.

Pentangle’s Big Charity Event

Local business and community supporter Pentangle Aquatics (34 High Street) are organising a charity day in support of Woking Hospice and Children in Need.

Hosted on the 16th November at their shop, the day will run from 10: 30am to 4pm and contain a variety of entertainment for children and adults alike. Fancy hooking a duck? You can do that! Who doesn’t enjoy ‘whack a rat’?! That’s there too… Also on the day you’ll find a tombola, a bag pipe player (yes!), a tattoo artist (temporary tattoos only so mum’s and dad’s can breathe easy) and a silent auction.

Nick will also be doing 15 minute sessions where you can learn to overcome your fears in a one-to-one environment. Those fears of spiders will be history!

More entertainment is planned including, hopefully, a big ole Pudsy bear, face painting and quite a variety of others.

Show your support folks!

Owner Nick Forrest and volunteer Danielle have put in a massive effort for the day so please do go along and show your support for them as well as local and national charities.

For those of you able, they also still would like donations for the silent auction and tombola [hint hint!]

You can contact Nick via his website www.PentangleAquatics.co.uk or pop in to 34 High Street, Knaphill.
